The Sunpilots - King of the Sugarcoated Tongues
This an amazing concept album in eight parts.starts naturally with the prologue '3 minutes to midnight' setting the scene.its a prog rock opera of the highest magnitude.a 2112 for the now,if you like.musically flawless, vocals are a real stand out, alternating from gentle narration to screaming & wailing in beautiful synch with the tight playing of all the band.comparisons to The Mars Volta & even the older generation like Rush & Yes will surely be made.but The Sunpilots have a sound of their own.and it's a magical one.there are many quiet passages, subtle musicianship, taking you along, then they hit you full force with heavy guitar riffs and crashing rhythms.as I've already mentioned the vocals on this album, which incidentally has been put out as a free download, are top drawer and a real highlight.chapter ii- The Captain is over eight minutes long and is a little epic all of it's own.superb.chapter iv : sex & tv, is a real stand out & probably my favourite track along with vi : the pipers mirror.some great heavy guitar riffs interspersed with quieter passages.the album ends with The Exodus featuring some really funky bass and a very catchy beat.fans of the aforementioned & also bands like Radiohead etc will love this.could go down as a modern classic.Sunpilots I salute you.madferret.
